The Definition of Psychology

Psychology is defined as "a scientific discipline that studies behavior and
the behavioral manifestations of experience in humans and other animals." In
other words, psychology is the way humans and animals think and use their
minds. Psychology is a study that is divided into two groups. The two groups
are clinical and research. Clinical psychology applies known information to
help people on an everyday basis. Research psychology is used in
performing experiments to enhance the abilities and knowledge of clinical
psychology. So, in a sense, psychology, in its clinical and research
branches, has the ultimate goal to help people and animals in their
psychological problems.  The word psychology means, "study of the mind".
This also means the relationship of the study of the mind in relation to the
body, because the only way to express our minds is through our body. This
expression between mind and body is known as behavior.

Many psychologists observe and analyze human/animal behavior. These
psychologists study in the research part of psychology. These scientists are
also known as psychological researchers. These experts have a PhD, or a
doctor's degree. These people do experiments on either humans or animals
depending of circumstances. They either study how normal people behave,
how people with psychological problems behave, or they contrast the two.
They make theories or hypotheses, and they perform experiments to see if
they are correct. If these theories are proved correct by their experiments,
then they are incorporated into clinical psychology to help people. People
like psychiatrists and therapists use the information from research
psychology and apply it to their field of clinical psychology to help other
people. Psychiatrists are doctors, which gives them the ability to prescribe
drugs. They observe specific peoples behavior that have come to him for
help, and they prescribe appropriate drugs for these people. Therapists,
although psychologists, are not doctors. Therapists understand
neuroscience, cognitive processing, and social psychology just like
psychiatrists, but they do not understand how to prescribe drugs for these
certain individuals. Therapists assess people's problems and help the
people/families to solve them.

Experimental work using humans or animals as subjects is sometimes
unlawful or unethical. Even though people can be persuaded to sign papers
to not put the psychological institution at fault for problems, this subject can
still be an ethical problem that depends on the psychologist himself to Asses
the dangerousness of any kind of testing. Animals are also a topic of
controversy over psychological testing. Although these humans and animals
are put at risk by this testing, one can say that the ends justifies the means in
the terms of how many people would be hurt if a unsafe product were put on
the market without testing. Because animals are obviously unable to give
consent for testing, some people are worried that animals deserve rights.
Although this may be true, we value human life over animal life, so that is why
we test animals first. Psychological experimentation, whether right or wrong,
ultimately ensures the safety of many people who take psychological drugs.

Psychology is ultimately the study of though process and behavior, or how
we use our minds in accordance to our bodies. Psychology is and
interesting and popular subject, drawing many interested people into a
variety of jobs such as being a therapist, psychiatrist, or a research
psychologist. These jobs are divided into the clinical or research bases,
psychiatrist and therapists being on the clinical side, and a research
psychologist being on the research side. Researchers study people, and
formulate opinions and prove them thorough experiments, which later
become fact if the experiments turn out positive. The people in the clinical
division, who use them to help the people that they deal with every day, use
these proven facts. So, psychology's goal is to ultimately help people.
Although experimentation is a controversial topic, it can be justified as
acceptable because of how much safer the drugs are that are released to
the public.
